The decision to reverse a vasectomy can come about after life changes or a change of heart. Fortunately, restoring fertility after having a vasectomy is possible with better success rates today than ever before.

Over the last decade, incredible advances in the field of vasectomy reversal have been achieved. Our Utah urology clinic uses state-of-the-art microsurgical techniques designed to maximize the success of reversing your vasectomy while minimizing discomfort.

What to expect during and after vasectomy reversal

Less Time & Smaller Incisions

Dr. Christensen performs vasectomy reversals inside local surgical centers. While the procedure itself takes less than two hours, patients should expect to spend about three hours at the surgical center.

Vasectomy reversal is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. With his meticulous precision and experience, Dr. Christensen uses microscopic technology and very small incisions to identity and remove scar tissue of the vans deferens and reconnect it to restore movement of sperm to the penis.

Following Your Vasectomy Reversal

  • Swelling and discomfort will occur following the procedure but should subside within a week. Patients will be instructed to wear compression shorts for 6-8 weeks following vasectomy reversal.

  • A small amount of narcotics may be prescribed for pain, but most patients manage discomfort with non-narcotic medication.

  • Showering is possible after 48 hours.

  • Intercourse is possible after three weeks.

  • After one week, you’ll receive a call from Dr. Christensen or his staff to follow-up on your healing progress.

  • He will also schedule a two-month post-operative appointment to examine semen production and quality after your vasectomy reversal.

  • Routine intercourse is recommended after three weeks to attempt conception. If conception does not occur within 9 months, Dr. Christensen will do a second semen analysis.

Patient-centered Environment, Cost-effective Care

Thanks to advancements in technology, the decision to have a vasectomy is no longer a permanent one. Couples who wish to conceive again now have that option.

Your experience is our top priority: From the procedure itself, to the convenience, price, and follow-up care. Ogden Clinic vasectomy reversals are always performed inside local surgical centers using state-of-the-art microsurgical equipment. This ensures that our patients receive the best quality of care and also keeps the procedure affordable.

It’s generally much more cost-effective to receive a vasectomy reversal from a surgical center than a hospital. Dr. Christensen is committed to giving patients the best possible outcomes and making vasectomy reversal an affordable option for families in need.

How successful is vasectomy reversal at Ogden Clinic?

The success of a vasectomy reversal depends on the age of the patient (and his partner if they want to conceive), the amount of time that has passed since the vasectomy, and the skill of the surgeon performing the procedure. Generally, success rates vary from 60 to 90 percent.

Other factors for conception:

  • Our office will also encourage your female partner to receive a Women’s Health evaluation if she is over age 32 to ensure adequate health for conception.

  • Before completing a vasectomy reversal, Dr. Christensen may also check that you can still produce healthy sperm.
